9/1/23
live lounge appeal and format

LO: to explore the format of an exam question and how to respond

the bbc radio 1 remit entertains young children all the way up to 29 year olds in the UK

How does the Live Lounge appeal to the target audience and meet the BBC remit?

What could you incude? What type of music is played

Who are the audience? 15 - 29 year olds

What is the remit?

How is the remit meet? Entertain- using live music from Uk artists

What evidence from the show could you use to support your answer?

Exam question:

The live lounge appeals to the audience by having big artists, music for the younger generation and the presenters talking about stuff for the younger audience. An example of this is seen by the bright colours on the bbc radio website and having podcasts and popular music for the younger audiences. This ensures that the live lounge targets 15 - 29 year olds. The live lounge fits to the BBC remit through young artists, language of format on show, live music and anecdotes in interviews.

The live lounge attracts a wider audience because of the famous artists they bring on, this also means that a lot of the younger audience (15-18) would be the majority of people because of all of the big artists and celebs they bring on. This explains that the majority of people are teenagers or young adults because of the artists. This means that the majority of people are teenagers or young adults

23/1/23

emerging artists examples are younger new singers or song writers like ardee

Question 1

1) BBC

2) the wifi

3) BBC

4) Submerge

question 2

Listening to the radio live is an advantage because you always know any new songs that have been released

Question 3

Producers of radio programmes target different audience because of all the different types of music. The music they play on radio 1 is a mixed variety of songs, like songs for old, younger and different genders.

2/1/23 LO: to examine the use of media language in music videos

Mise-en-scene:

setting

costume

props

lightning

hair and makeup

colour

performance

They used that costume to make it look like shes brave and shes a warrior becuase of her wearing camo.

The genre is funk and pop because the scene shows us that the people in the music video all wear rich clothes (gold chains) and they are at a rich hotel showing us that its modern and that its to do with pop

Wealth:

diamonds

gold taps

diamond jewlery

posh backround

Skater boy

These 3 pictures shows us shes a rebel to society and that shes a skater boy

In the first picture it shows us that there is a whole group of people holding up the road and you can tell this song is from a while ago because of the clothes people are wearing and the old cars used for the music video it. She is also in the centre and showing us shes the main character (shes in the centre for most scenes)

The second picture shows us a ton of spray cans that could also mean shes going to do something illegal, it takes a clear of the spray cans and the backround is blurry

the last picture shows us that the police are going to catch her hence the helicopter above her clearly showing us that shes a reble

The first picture shows us that the music video is set in a school by him walking down the school corridor. You can also tell its an old song by the clothes hes wearing

Camerawork

 23/2/23

shes the main character

the artist is probably singing about love because of the redish pink setting

the camera shot is a long shot and it tells you that shes alone

shot type, angle, movement

dutch angle - tilt

1. POV shot
to show u what the camera man sees
shes the main character

2. Extreme  Long/wide shot
to make it obvious that hes alone

3. High/wide shot
its used to let you know thats shes the main the character

4. Mid/wide shot
its to show you that he gets bullied by these three people
the one in the middle especially

5. Close up shot

rough
fast
shakey
rapid

The camera work in skater boy is Expressionistic
For example at one point in the video shes in a car jumping up and down with her mates
The handheld camera work fits the tone of the song because its fast

27/2/23 LO to reflect on areas to improve in the assessment

1) identify the word that describes a large company which owns a set of companies that produced different media forms. Conglomerate

1) Bauer media owns radio stations as well as magazines. identify the word that describes adding other areas of business in this way. Diversification

1) identify one source of funding for BBC radio 1

TV license

2) Explain one way in which radio audiences are passive and one way which they may be active

Radio stations target audiences by having a large range of content for their audiences.

Target for question 3:make points about how the BBC Radio provide wider content on their radio stations, give examples on Radio 1 and why they have to do this linked to the remit

BBC radio provides a wider range of content than commercial radio for several reasons

Firstly radio 1 provides the latest trending songs to get the new generation engaged. This example is due to the remit and in particular the songs that are produced by big artists that teenagers and adults enjoy
We can identify this in the live lounge through

Sound

Diegetic and non-diegetic

Diegetic sounds are sounds that we can hear as an audience and characters in the movie can hear

Non-Diegetic sounds are sounds that we can hear as an audience but they cant

Diegetic
spray cans
helicopter

they included them to make the main character look like a tomboy

Editing

transitions
special effects
pace and rythm
continuity
shot duration

both videos are linear

Skater boy has a faster pace than teenage dirtbag because of the style of music and the type of beat

Teenage dirtbag has a longer shot length because the song is slower than Skater boy and its slow because it cuts to the slow beat

The pace of the cutting for skater boy is very very fast because of her rebelness

One way teenage dirtbag and skater boy differ from eachother is by the camerawork in both music videos. This is because in Skater Boy the camera work is mostly hand-held making it expressionistic. In Teenage Dirtbag the camera work is very naturalistic  by having multiple different camera angles throughout the music video.

Stereotypes

Men:
Physically strong
hard working
logical
cruel

Women
Gentle
kind
verbal

Sk8ter Boi:

Avril Lavigne    -

Punk rock genre -

Teenagers - breaking the rules because they are teenagers

Urban Setting -

Gender - males are presented as stereotypical (because of the violence)

Ethnicity -

sexuality - straight (boy and girl relationship)

Teenage Dirtbag:

The Band -

The male and female protagonists - the man is a loser while the girl is popular

Ethnicity - white 0

High school - the school looks american

Teenage stereotypes -

Gender - The male is shown for being feminine

Sexuality - straight
